New Members
This area of the website is a one-stop source of basic information for our new association members. As you will discover, the information included here covers a broad range of topics ... all intended to help give you a solid start in your first season as a TWOA-GC wrestling referee. Should you have any questions or concerns not covered here, please feel free to contact any of the executive board members (noted below).
Uniform & Equipment
  • Shirt - Grey pin-striped polyester (or similar blend) v-neck shirt. Purchase at least 2 shirts.
  • Pants - Black polyester (or similar blend) pants with or without belt. Length should be 1" or so longer than normal pants. Purchase at least 2 pair of pants. Also, if required, buy an all black belt.
  • Shoes - Black cross-trainer type shoe with comfortable innersole. Shoes must not be adorned with any light colored trim or logos. Wrestling shoes are not recommended.
  • Socks - Black over-the-calf socks made from moisture absorbing material. Socks must not be adorned with any light colored trim or logos.
  • Whistle - Black plastic whistle with black lanyard.
  • Wrist Bands - Set of red/green wrist bands.
  • Flip Disk - Red/green plastic or rubber disk. In order to prevent rolling, an octagon shape is preferred.
The pants, shoes, socks and whistle can be found at any local sporting good store (and maybe the shirt). The shirt, wrist bands and flip disk can be found online at:
Since the wrist bands and flip disk may be difficult to find locally, the association maintains a stock of these for purchase ($5.00 for the flip disk and $7.00 for the wrist bands). Contact Clayton Martin to purchase these items.
Association Members

Our association is comprised of a diverse group of about 50 dedicated referees. The range of experience varies from a few months to over 40 years ... and the level of competency varies from youth qualified to college certified. We are always looking for new referees at all skill levels. A few related links:
Scheduling Process

The scheduling process occurs twice a season ... in late October (for the first half of the season) and then again in early December (for the second half of the season). To process involves an online bidding system that allows you to select and rank your preferred events. After the bidding process is complete, most officials will be assigned one weekday event and one Saturday event per week. In any case, you will be assigned to events that best match your officiating capability. All wrestling events and the respective referee assignments can be found on the Schedules page.
TWOA Online Forum

Our association sponsors an online state-wide forum designed for the exclusive use of TWOA referees. The mission of this forum is to promote officiating consistency, encourage the sharing of ideas and to foster a sense of camaraderie within our TWOA association.

To ensure quality content and personal accountability, access to the forum is strictly controlled. Consequently, you will be automatically registered shortly after you join the association. Click HERE to gain access to the TWOA Online State Forum login page. You are strongly encourage to actively participate in this exciting new forum.
Registration & Dues

Registration and the payment of the $50 annual dues are made through the UIL/Arbiter website. Registration is required in order to receive your NFHS books, general liability insurance, online testing and to officiate any Texas wrestling event.
  • To begin the registration process click HERE.
  • If you've previously registered with UIL/Arbiter, make sure to sign-in to the UIL/Arbiter website before registering for this season!
  • The process will require you to provide some basic information, disclose your conviction status, digitally sign several UIL statements, select our chapter from a list, upload a photo (optional) and submit your payment (credit card or e-check).
  • When completed, you will receive 2 emails ... one confirming your registration and another confirming your dues payment.
Referee Training

Training is a key element of the TWOA-GC referee experience. Consequently, a few of the basic training requirements include attending one of our two local officiating clinics, attending the annual evaluation tournament and the successful completion of the NFHS Wrestling Rules Examination (Part I).

In addition, training continues at each of our regularly scheduled association meetings. These meetings are held at Jax Grill and are generally held every two weeks during the wrestling season (October thru February). The meetings are very casual and start at 6:30pm and end at around 8:15pm. Regular meeting attendance is expected of all members.

The scheduled dates for the two officiating clinics, the annual evaluation tournament and the Jax Grill meetings can be found on our Meetings page.
NFHS Rule & Case Books

The NFHS Rule & Case books are the official rules source for high school wrestling in Texas. The only exception to these rules would be those listed in the UIL Wrestling Manual. The middle school and youth programs also follow these rules with a few appropriate exceptions (weight classes, etc). These books are provided as part of your membership dues.
Executive Board

The TWOA-GC Executive Board consists of an elected President, Commissioner, Director/Scheduler, Secretary/Treasurer and Past President. The respective duties and responsibilities of each office are contained in the TWOA-GC Bylaws. The Executive Board members for the 2011-12 season are:
Referee Compensation

The TWOA-GC fee schedule for high school events and middle school events can be found on page 2 of the Agreement For Officiating Services. These fees are based upon the officiating fees set by the University Interscholastic League (UIL). The TWOA-GC fee schedule for youth events can be found on the Special Addendum for Youth Wrestling Tournaments. It is important to note that all officiating fees are paid directly to the respective referee. Consequently, you will be responsible for the payment of all related income taxes.
